Community Health Worker Training: Insurance & Finances 101

This is a free training for community health workers (CHW), promotores, patient navigators, and other front line public health workers. The training provides and introduction to choosing and using health insurance, workplace rights to take time off to access health care, disability insurance, and strategies for managing medical bills.

  • Please register with the email address that you will have access to on the day of the event. Occasionally, emails from Triage Cancer get blocked by hospital or work servers. If you think this will be a problem, please use your personal email address to register.

Accreditation Information

During this live and interactive training, Community Health Workers in attendance will learn about choosing and using health insurance, workplace rights to take time off work to access health care, disability insurance, and strategies for managing medical bills. 

This training will provide CHW's with a foundation to help patients make decisions about health & disability insurance, work, and medical bills. All attendees will have the opportunity to ask the speakers questions in real-time via a Q&A box.

If you would like a general certificate of attendance, you must indicate that when completing the Community Health Worker Training evaluation form. You must attend the entire event.

Evaluation forms are emailed after the training and are required for a certificate. You will also receive a post-test, which is not mandatory, but strongly encouraged. Certificates of attendance can be submitted to accrediting agencies.

  • 10am-10:15am Introduction to Triaging Health

  • 10:15am-11:30am Choosing & Using Health Insurance 

  • 11:30am-11:45am Break

  • 11:45-1:15pm Decisions About Work

  • Attendees will be able to outline how community health workers can engage in various types of advocacy and encourage their community members to be advocates
  • Attendees will be able to outline the various health insurance options and consumer protections available to community members
  • Attendees will be able to Outline how the ADA and FMLA can be useful to employees dealing with a serious medical condition, or acting as a caregiver for a loved one 


In order to receive a certificate of attendance, attendees must register individually. Participants who “listen in” on another participant’s phone/computer will not be eligible for credit. Participants must attend the entire training. No partial credit will be given.

Post-test & Evaluation

Participants will be emailed a link to the online evaluation and post-test one DAY after the completion of the training and will have one week to complete both. 

The relevant certificates will be emailed to eligible attendees within 4 weeks of the event.
